FOOTS HILL BLUES & ROOTS 2021
1st Artist Announcement
Inspired by the original Delta Blues masters, Lady Valiant was formed in Georgia, United States in 2015. Relocating to Port Douglas Queensland in 2016, founding members, Glenna Lynes a South Carolina native and Marty Brown from country Victoria, create a 'less is more' Blues/ Rock soundscape that lacks for nothing with its minimalistic approach.
Fusing genres, Lady Valiant mix old school blues from the Deep South with a twist of modern rock into their original music. Using a unique blend of dirty slide guitar, raw soulful vocals, searing fiddle and a solid drum groove they bring an authentic fresh sound to the stage with raw power and originality.
"When the Lady sings she's going to burn this whole place down you better believe it! If you like raw no bullshit blues listen to this track - she's not playin' around! 4.5 out of 5 stars" — Nkechi Anele - Triple J
Festival favourites, Golden Fiddle Recipients (2020) and 4 time “Bluegrass” Golden Guitar finalists, the Hillbilly Goats, exude an undeniable passion for mountain music, the instruments and the harmonies.
Their mission is to strip back the layers of modern music and transport you on a journey that began centuries ago when the immigrants first settled in the Appalachian Mountains of America. These guys aren’t just a band – “they’re a show” and “Keeping it Real” is their motto!
"...the Hillbilly Goats exhibit genuine passion and no lack of expertise or energy in their mission to present a taste of old-time Appalachian folk to Australian audiences....driving fiddle and plonking banjo in tandem provide more conventional impetus. Elsewhere, double bass and harmonica in conjunction with a variety of percussive devices (clogging, washboard, bones and jew's harp) help maintain momentum. Tight four-part harmony singing, with alternating male and female emphasis, adorns most tracks." - Tony Hillier, The AUSTRALIAN - Aug ‘13
With an insane talent that’s out of control playing what she calls dirty sweet rock & roll this young singer/songwriter/guitarist/multi instrumentalist has been eating up girl bands since 1994.
Minnie Marks is not just some blazingly electrified acoustic guitar playing freak of nature, but also a rare and triple threat: Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Be warned, her show will take you on a dizzying, riff rock rollercoaster ride with songs written over the past years of her musical journey around the world.
This bombshell explodes on stage pushing the limits of her guitar, vocals and performance, kicking arse and playing to packed out shows, leaving little doubt everybody is touting her as ‘the next big thing’.
“Minnie Marks, she plays guitar like nothing I’ve ever seen before, she sings like Janis Joplin, she’s going to blow the world apart.” – Kim Churchill
"Damn, I don't think I've ever seen a female shred harder than you in the flesh" - Dallas Frasca
Folk funksters The Moonsets combine Electric Harp, Bass, drums and soulful vocals to create an eclectic blend of psychedelic folk laced with soul, funk, world, blues and a splash of subtropical groove.
It's difficult to pin these musical adventurers down to one genre so be prepared to have any preconceptions blown in the best possible way.
"Had no idea that an electric harp could have such a great, groovy, psychedelic and luscious rock sound, one that fits perfectly with the rest of the (fantastic) band and with some soulfully mesmerizing female vocals. Every song here shines in its own unique way, like pearls scattered in the sultry underbrush of a thick, tropical forest". Favorite track: Firefly. ~ muschiosauro
"The Moonsets play what you’d imagine in your head having known they’re from the ‘Sunshine Coast’ of Australia. Elements of psychedelic rock hazed with soulful and bluesy vocals and holding a pretty damn catchy island beat throughout. All in all this is a hot find and one I’ll be waiting for the rest of you to join the party soon". ~ Bucky
Owen Campbell has cemented himself as one of Australia’s premier alternative blues/rock exports with 3 best-selling studio albums, 2 EPs and over 12 years of national and international touring.
“A well-honed, ageless style, one that never seems to lose its conjuring powers.” BMA Magazine
“He propels with explosive anguish and undeniable charm!” Glide Magazine
“One of the best performers to come out of Australia for quite some time.” Argus News Ireland
